Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme was a part of YS Jagan’s election
manifesto for the 2014 and 2019 Legislative Assembly elections. In an
interview premiered on 2nd April 2019 with Vanitha TV, YS Jagan’s mother
YS Vijayamma said that the decision to implement Amma Vodi was first
taken in 2011. In 2014, the manifesto promised financial assistance of
Rs. 500 per school-going child, directly deposited in the mother’s bank
account.
During the Odarpu Yatra and subsequently the Praja Sankalpa Yatra, YS
Jagan observed that many families were not sending their children to
schools because of poverty. Mothers and guardians expressed their
concerns to him about facing problems in providing basic amenities for
their children. YS Jagan promised to help them out by providing
financial incentives through Amma Vodi.
Objective
The Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme provides financial assistance to
mothers or recognized guardians, from below poverty line households,
irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and region, in order to assist
them to provide for their child/children’s education. The scheme aims at
reducing dropout rates in schools and eradicating child labor in the
state by providing incentives to mothers and legal guardians. In order
to avail of its benefits, the parents must also ensure that the child is
regular and punctual.

Incentive
Yearly financial assistance of Rs. 15,000/- directly transferred into
the bank accounts of mothers or legal guardians. During its second
installment, Chief Minister YS Jagan announced that instead of the
yearly financial assistance, students from class 9th to 12th can opt for
a laptop.
Eligibility
The beneficiary must be a legal resident of Andhra Pradesh.
The Family should be in possession of a White Ration Card issued by the Government.
The
Mother of the child should be from a household that is below the
poverty line as per the norms prescribed by the Government of Andhra
Pradesh.
The child should be studying in class 1 to 12 in a
government or private aided and unaided school/junior college, including
residential schools/colleges in the state.
If the
child/children discontinue their studies in the middle of the academic
year, they will not be eligible for the benefit for that academic year.
The beneficiary/Mother shall possess a valid Aadhar card or having applied and verified.
State/Central
Government and PSU Employees, Government employee pensioners (including
PSU, Central Govt, etc), Income taxpayers are not eligible for claiming
financial assistance under this scheme.
Orphans and children living on the streets who are studying in schools through voluntary organizations are eligible.
What if you don’t have an aadhar or ration card?
If you don’t have a white ration card or aadhar card, the village or
ward volunteer will certify you as eligible, and after a six-stage
filtration process, your details will be forwarded to the Mandal
education officer.
Those mothers whose children are studying from Class I to XII, but
are not covered in the previous year’s list of beneficiaries, shall be
identified for extending the benefit based on the following criteria:

Salient Features
The scheme is applicable in all recognized Government, Private
Aided and Private Unaided schools/ Jr. Colleges including Residential
Schools/Colleges in the State from the Academic year 2019-2020.
The
yearly cash transfer of Rs 15,000 is done through Direct Benefit
Transfer into the bank accounts of mothers or legal guardians. The
amount is fixed and does not depend on the number of school-going
children she has.
From the academic year 2020-21, the State
government will credit Rs. 14,000 to the beneficiaries’ accounts and the
remaining Rs 1,000 to the DTMF (District Toilet Management Fund), for
the maintenance of toilets in government schools.
Students
studying from class IX to XII can opt for laptops in lieu of financial
assistance under the Amma Vodi scheme. The laptops costing around Rs.
25,000 – 27,000 each will have 4GB RAM and a 500GB hard disk with
Windows 10 OS features.
Laptops with higher specifications will
be distributed in order to cater to the needs of students pursuing
engineering and other technical studies.
If the laptops are
damaged, parents can hand them over to the nearest village/ward
secretariats for repair. The laptops will have to either be repaired
within a week or replaced.
The state government has also set up a
toll-free helpline 1902 for students/parents to lodge complaints, with
respect to this scheme.
Impact
With the announcement of the scheme, there was a 40% spike in
admissions. As per the statistics available with the School Education
department, enrollment of students in government schools in the 2018-19
academic year was 37,20,988, and in the 2019-20 academic year, it
increased to 38,18,927. For 2020-21, over 42.46 lakh students have
enrolled in government/government-aided schools.
Process
The school education department has fixed a timeline for the
collection of details, confirmation, rectification of errors if found,
and preparation of the list of eligible beneficiaries. The students are
selected after undergoing a rigorous six-stage filtration process and
the list of mothers/guardians is released digitally.
Any discrepancies in details are sorted out by the school principals.
Complaints regarding the eligibility of a beneficiary are sent to the
Joint Collector for appropriate redressal. The final list, after
corrections, is displayed on the portal – https://jaganannaammavodi.ap.gov.in/
and in all the village/ward secretariats. User IDs and passwords are
given to the principals of government and private schools to upload
details of students on the online portal, with a deadline to submit.

Guidelines released by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2020-21 are as follows –
Preliminary actions to take place from 9th December 2020 to 25th December 2020.
All the principals are required to register and update the details of students from 10th December 2020 to 20th December 2020.
The
list of all the eligible mothers/guardians whose children are enrolled
in the portal will be reviewed and released on 15th December 2020.
All the students whose details are updated before 15th December 2020 will be provided to APCFSS on 15th December 2020.
All the above details will also be displayed on the school notice board and all the village/ward secretariats across the state.
How To Apply
The application form for the Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme can be obtained at the nearest village/ward secretariat.
After
filling the form and attaching the relevant documents, the applicants
can submit it to the nearest government office or the ward/village
secretariat.
The form can also be submitted online through the official portal.
The final list of eligible beneficiaries will be made available each
year at schools and village/ward secretariats across the state.

facilitate seamless connectivity to the Statue of Unity. The Prime
Minister will also inaugurate several other projects related to the
Railways sector in Gujarat during the event. Gujarat Chief Minister
Vijay Rupani and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal will be present on the
occasion.

Chennai will stay
connected to the monumental statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron

Mahesh, this project is a historic venture.
The train is a superfast weekly express from Chennai to Kevadiya. A report from our Chennai correspondent:

cover 1731 kms and will reach Kevadiya in Gujarat at 2:52 on Monday
evening. It will stop at Renigunta, Cuddapah, Guntakal, Raichur,
Solapur, Pune, Kalyan, Vasai Road, Surat and Vadodara. The super fast
train starting from Kevadiya at 9:15 every wednesday morning will reach
Chennai at 4 o clock on Thursday evening. In the return direction
Kevadiya superfast weekly trains will leave Chennai at 10:30 on Sunday
night starting on 24th of this month and reach Kevadiya at three o

Modi will perform Bhoomi Poojan of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2
and Surat Metro Rail Project at 10:30 AM tomorrow through video

Project Phase-2 is 28.25 Kilometre long with two corridors. The total

India successfully rolled
out the world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination drive yesterday. It was
launched by Prime M inister Narendra Modi through video conferencing.
More than 1.91 lakh people across the country were inoculated on the
first day. Health Ministry said not a single case of post-vaccination
hospitalisation has been reported so far. SII-produced Covidshield was
supplied to all States and UTs, while Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin was sent
to 12 States. Government said, vaccination drive is probably the
beginning of the end of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Speaking on the occasion,
Prime Minister said India’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign is based on
very humane principles and those exposed to maximum risk get priority.
Mr Modi stressed that this type of large-scale vaccination campaign has never before been run in history.
Mr Modi praised those
scientists who had been involved in making the vaccine against Corona
for the past several months. He exuded pride how two Made in India
vaccines were readied in such a short period. Mr Modi said Indian
vaccines are much cheaper than foreign vaccines but are equally good. He
said there are some vaccines abroad whose single dose cost up to 5,000
rupees and have to be kept in freeze at minus 70 degree temperature.
Mr Modi highlighted the need to have two doses of corona vaccine.
Health Minister Harsh
Vardhan interacted with the Health Ministers of States and Union
Territories to review the first Day of World’s largest Vaccination
Programme. He urged all State Health Ministers to keep a check on
rumours and disinformation regarding the Vaccines and make efforts to
disseminate the right information. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, the
vaccination drive, for which preparations were being done for the last
five months under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has
finally started.

In Bihar 18,122 health
workers were vaccinated on the first day of vaccination drive yesterday.
No side effect has been reported from any parts of the state.
Vaccination was undertaken at 301 health centres in 38 districts of the
state.

In Uttar Pradesh,
vaccination drive was carried out successfully yesterday. Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inspected
vaccination work at Balrampur hospital in Lucknow and expressed
satisfaction on the arrangements. Chief Minister said, media should work
to prevent rumour mongering regarding the vaccine. He also called upon
people not to lower their guards against Corona and continue to take all
precautionery measures.
“The vaccination
work was conducted at 317 Covid centers in state and no unpleasant
incident was reported from anywhere. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
instructed that at least 1.5 lakh tests should be done every day in
state and testing work of Covid-19 be continued with full capacity.
Chief Minister also gave Instructions to keep the contact tracing and
surveillance system fully active to brake the chain of Corona. He asked
to keep the arrangements of Covid hospitals well arranged and said that
the Integrated Command and Control Center should be kept fully
functional in districts. He said that in spite of vaccination work the
people should constantly be made aware about the prevention from
Covid-19, and they should be asked to follow social distancing and wear

Public Health Department
of Maharashtra has made it clear that the vaccination drive has not been
suspended anywhere in the state and the drive will continue according
to the guidelines in the next week for four days. The clarification is
given in the backdrop of the reports in some section of media that the
drive is suspended in the state till January 18. The deparment has said
that the vaccination drive was not planned on January 17 and 18. So
question of cancellation does not arise.

In Telangana, total 3962
front line health and sanitation workers have received the first dose of
vaccine against coronavirus yesterday at 140 vaccination centres across
the state. So far there is no post-vaccine hospitalization reported in
the state. State health Minister E. Rajender urged the centre for
simplify the procedures relating to the COWIN portal following technical
snags reported at many places. He also urged for issuing more vaccines
as the state is expanding the vaccination drive to cover more sections
of people.

In Odisha, more than 85
per cent of the targeted beneficiaries received the covid-19 vaccine
shots till 8 pm on the inaugural day of the nation-wide vaccination
program yesterday. The state had targeted to vaccinate about 16 thousand
health care workers in 161 session sites across 30 districts on day

“Capital
Bhubaneswar, which targets to immunize about 9 thousand health care
workers in the first round of vaccination, saw one sanitation worker
being delivered the Covaxin shot as the first recipient in Capital
Hospital yesterday. The state has identified about 1.92 lakh health care
workers to be vaccinated against the virus in about a week’s time in
the first phase. A couple of hours from the country-wide roll out of the
vaccination program, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik virtually interacted
with some vaccinated healthcare workers to take their feedback and was
happy to note their positive reactions on being vaccinated. Girish

In Gujarat, 11,800 Corona
warriors were vaccinated across 33 districts and 8 municipal areas on
the first day yesterday. 80 to 100 per cent coverage has been achieved
across all the centres. Adverse side impact of vaccines has not been
witnessed in even a single case. Gujarat government has planned to
vaccinate around 4 lakh 40 thousand health workers and front line corona
warriors in the first phase.

In Karnataka 13,408 people
have been successfully vaccinated yesterday in 243 Centers in the
State. This is 62 percent of the designated 21,658 people targeted to be
vaccinated yesterday. On the first day the first jab was administered
to Nagaratna, a front line staff at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.
“Karnataka Health
Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar has said that there is no side effect or
serious threats reported from anywhere in the State. Speaking to media
he further said that vaccination will resume in government hospitals
from tomorrow, private hospitals will continue the vaccination today
also. Kodagu district has recorded the highest number of vaccination
with 84 per cent and Dakshina Kannada records the lowest with 34 per
cent. Bengaluru city reported 53 per cent of vaccination on day one.
Karnataka received 8 lakh doses of vaccination and 7.43 lakh people
have been identified for the first phase of vaccination. State
government has requested the Central government to provide additional 8
lakh doses of vaccine. Meanwhile the State reported 584 new Covid-19
positive cases, 676 recoveries and four deaths during the last 24 hours.

recovery rate has reached 96.56 per cent. A total of 16 thousand 977
COVID patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The total number of
recoveries has gone up to over one crore one lakh 79 thousand 715. The
Health Ministry said, the actual caseload currently comprises only 2 per
cent of the total positive cases.

conferencing yesterday. He appreciated the startup spirit of finding

Prime Minister pointed out
that 45 per cent startups are in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, working as
the brand ambassadors of the local products.
Mr Modi announced Startup
India Seed Fund Scheme of about one thousand crore rupees for startups
to spur entrepreneurship across the Nation.
Mr Modi said, more than 41
thousand start-ups are engaged in some campaign in the country. Of
these, more than five thousand 700 are in the IT sector and over three
thousand 600 are in the health sector.

Government has said that
around 563 lakh tonnes of Paddy have been procured during the ongoing
Kharif Marketing Season. This is an increase of 26.28 per cent against
the last year corresponding purchase of around 445 lakh tonnes.
Agriculture Ministry said, government continues to procure Kharif crops
at its Minimum Support Price from farmers as per its existing MSP
Schemes. The Ministry said, more than 78 lakh paddy farmers have been
benefited from current Kharif Marketing Season Procurement Operations
with MSP value of over one lakh six thousand crore rupees. The Paddy
procurement is continuing smoothly in the procuring States and Union
Territories of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand,
Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra
Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar,
Jharkhand, Assam, Karnataka and West Bengal.

Influenza have been confirmed in poultry in Latur, Parbhani, Nanded,
Pune, Solapur, Yavatmal, Ahmednagar, Beed and Raigad districts of
Maharashtra. Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said,
Avian Influenza has also been confirmed in Chhatarpur district of Madhya
Pradesh, Surat, Navsari and Narmada districts of Gujarat, Dehradun

Festival of India (IFFI) has announced Indian Personality of the Year
Award for veteran actor and director Biswajit Chatterjee. The Award was
announced at the opening ceremony of the festival by Information &
Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar in Goa yesterday.
The award will be conferred on him when National Film Awards are presented in March this year.
Apart from acting and
direction, Biswajit Chatterjee has also been a producer and singer of

Prime Minister Narendra
Modi will launch the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination program,
through video conferencing at 10.30 AM today. This pan India rollout of
COVID-19 vaccination drive will cover the entire length and breadth of
the country.
A total of three thousand
six session sites across all States and Union Territories will be
virtually connected during the launch. Around 100 beneficiaries will be
vaccinated at each session site on the inaugural day.
This vaccination programme
is based on the principles of priority groups to be vaccinated. Health
Care workers, both in government and private sectors including
Integrated Child Development Services-ICDS workers will receive the
vaccine during this phase.
The vaccination programme
will use Co-WIN, an online digital platform developed by Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare, which will facilitate real time information
of vaccine stocks, storage temperature and individualized tracking of
beneficiaries for COVID-19 vaccine. This digital platform will assist
programme managers across all levels while conducting vaccination
sessions.
A dedicated 24×7 call
centre, 1075 has also been established for addressing the queries
related to COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine rollout and the Co-WIN software.More details from our correspondent.
“India’s exercise
to vaccinate its population against COVID19 will be the largest
immunization drive of the world. COVID-19 vaccine priority will be given
to the healthcare workers and frontline workers who are estimated to be
around 3 Crores, followed by those above 50 years of age and the
under-50 population groups with co-morbidities numbering around 27
Crores. The two indigenously manufactured vaccines, COVISHIELD and
COVAXIN, have proven safety and immunogenicity records and are the most
important tools to contain the pandemic. Adequate doses of both
COVISHIELD and COVAXIN have already been delivered to all States with
the active support of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. These have been
further delivered by the State and UT governments to the districts. All
preparations are in place to initiate the programme on the principles of

NITI Aayog Member, Health
and the Chairman of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration
of COVID-19, Dr V. K. Paul has said that the two Made in India
vaccines-Covishield and Covaxin are safe and both have the capacity to
develop an immune response system in the body. Talking exclusively to
AIR News, Dr Paul said that both the vaccines have been given emergency
use authorisation by the drug regulator and experts of the country and
people should have trust in them.
Dr Paul also advised people not to pay heed to false information related to the vaccines.

In the national capital,
Delhi government has received 2 lakh 74 thousand vaccine doses from the
Central government, which will cater to around 1.2 lakh healthcare
workers in the first phase. A total of 81 sites have been finalized
across Delhi, and around 100 people will be vaccinated in a single day
at each site. Around 8000 healthcare workers will be vaccinated across
Delhi on a single day initially. The vaccine will be administered four
days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The remaining days
have been spared for the routine vaccination process.

In Uttar Pradesh, around
31,700 health workers will be vaccinated across 75 districts in the

“Health Minister
of state Jai Pratap Singh said that after the launch of vaccination
drive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the vaccination will start in
the state at all 311 centres where 317 sessions of immunization will be
held in the first phase. He said that all security arrangements are in
place and every protocol will be followed during the vaccination drive.
Health Minister said that cctv cameras have been installed at all 1,298
cold chain points and the session of vaccination will also be put under
CCTV surveillance. Additional chief secretary home health Amit Mohan
Prasad informed that at every centre hundred people will be vaccinated
and details of all persons who will be vaccinated today is online. In
state capital Lucknow 1200 persons will be vaccinated today at 12
centres in which 9 are in city areas and 3 are in rural areas. District
magistrate of Lucknow Abhishek Prakash said that the whole drive will

vaccination programme will begin at 300 centres across the state today.
The vaccine will be given first to cleanliness workers and ambulance
staff at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, Patna. Chief

people will be vaccinated today. Web casting of vaccination process will
be done at 50 centres. Health Minister Mangal Pandey said 4 lakh 65
thousand 160 health workers will be vaccinated during the first phase.

In Maharashtra, Mumbai
will have 9 centres where 4000 people will be administered the vaccine

“Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation has received 1 lakh 39 thousand and 500 doses of
Covishield vaccine from the Serum Institute of India and 1 lakh 30
thousand beneficiaries have been registered for the vaccination. 7000
personnel have been imparted training for this vaccination drive. There
are 9 centres with total 40 booths where average 4000 beneficiaries will
be vaccinated daily. According to the Centre’s guidelines the
vaccination drive will be carried out in three phases. As, the third
phase is expected to see a large number of turnout of beneficiaries, 63
more centres will be added to the existing 9 centres in Mumbai. This
will augment the capacity of administering the vaccine doses to almost

In Gujarat, the COVID-19
vaccination drive will start for healthcare workers from 161 centers
today along with nationwide vaccination drive. AIR Ahmedabad

“Gujarat Chief

present at Ahmedabad civil hospital where Prime Minister Narendra Modi
is expected to interact with some beneficiaries. According to state
immunization officer Dr. Nayan Jani, the Gujarat Health Department has
identified 4 lakh 31 thousand healthcare workers such as doctors and
nurses for vaccination during the first phase. After healthcare
professionals, 6 lakh 93 thousand front-line workers, more than 1 crore
people above the age of 50 and 2 lakh 75 thousand people below 50 years
but with comorbidity will be covered under the vaccine drive. Dr. Jani
said that a vaccine will be given to 100 health workers per center every
day. Beneficiaries will get an SMS through CoWIN application about

“Telangana state
is fully geared up to begin vaccination against COVID-19 when the
country takes up the biggest vaccination drive in the world. 140
vaccination centres have been set up in all 33 districts of the state
and 30 persons at each centre will be vaccinated on the first day today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi may interact with the beneficiaries from 2
centre. State Health Minister Etala Rajendra will be taking the vaccine
to demonstrate that vaccine against COVID is safe. Public
representatives are taking part in the drive at all 140 centres. The
authorities have kept 57 hospitals with 10 beds each across the state to

worker will be the first person to receive the vaccine today. State
level control rooms will be involved in day-to-day planning, especially
mobilization of human and other resources like transport, inter-sectoral
coordination, implementation and monitoring of activities during
vaccination rollout. A total of 31 control rooms have been established
including one in Bengaluru. Each control room will have a 24×7

the Covid vaccination will start today from 97 centers identified by
the state health department. On the first day about 5 thousand Heath

been identified and trained for the vaccination work. The Adverse Event
Failing Immunization management system has been strengthened from the
state level to the vaccination sites to deal with any adverse or
emergency situation after vaccination. All vaccination centers have been
linked to the nearest AEFI management system such as medical colleges,
district hospitals and community health centers. Appropriate
arrangements have also been made for the management of biomedical wastes

“Health Minister
Dr. Raghu told that vaccination work will be done at 167 session sites
in the state. Interactive sessions will be held at SMS Hospital in
Jaipur and JLN Medical College Hospital in Ajmer. He told that
vaccination work is scheduled 4 days in a week so that other health
services are not affected. The data of more than six lakh beneficiaries
from the state has been uploaded on the COVIN software. Meanwhile, the
number of active cases of corona in the state has been reduced to less
than 6 thousand. Just 310 new cases of infection have been reported

India continues to leap
ahead in its fight against COVID-19 with over one crore one lakh 62
thousand recoveries so far. With this, the national recovery rate has
further improved to 96.53 per cent. The number of daily infection also
continues to remain below 20 thousand with only 15 thousand 590 cases
being reported in the past 24 hours. During the same period nearly 16
thousand people have recovered from the pandemic.
The gap between the
recovered patients and active cases in the country has further widened
and the number of recovered patients stands at nearly 48 times the
number of current active cases.
The active caseload in the
country comprises nearly two lakh 13 thousand people and stands at 2.02
per cent. Out of these nearly 60 per cent are under home isolation and
have mild to very mild symptoms.
The Health Ministry
further said that this has also led to a commensurate dip in the
fatality rate which stands at 1.44 per cent.

Ministry of Fisheries,
Animal Husbandry and Dairying has said that 11 states in the country
have been affected by Avian Influenza- AI. The Ministry said, steps are
being taken to make the general public aware about the disease and
remove misinformation. It said, in pursuance of the Video Conferencing
meeting with the Animal Husbandry Departments of the States and Union
Territories, Secretary , Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has
written to the Chief Secretaries, Administrators of states and Union
Territories that AI is not new to the country but has been reported
every year since 2006. The country has been effectively controlling the
disease. It was reiterated that the virus gets destroyed easily at 70
degrees Centigrade and therefore, properly cooked poultry and poultry
products are safe for human consumption. The Ministry said, States have
been requested to instruct the authorities concerned not to impose ban
and allow selling of poultry and poultry products sourced from Avian
Influenza free areas and States.

two-day Summit is being organized by the Department for Promotion of
Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is
being organised as a follow up of the announcement made by the Prime
Minister at the fourth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral
Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit held in Kathmandu in
August 2018 wherein India committed to host the BIMSTEC Startup

The Centre has notified 3
thousand 566 posts in the Central Government establishments as suitable
for persons with benchmark disabilities under the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities Act, 2016. These posts include one thousand 46 in
Group A, 515 in Group B, one thousand 724 in Group C and 281 in Group D
posts. Posts have also been identified suitable for new categories of
persons with disabilities such as dwarfism, acid attack victims,
muscular dystrophy, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability,
specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disability
have been added. This list is not an exhaustive one and Central
Ministries, Departments, Autonomous Bodies and Public Sector
Undertakings may further supplement. This notification will broaden the
scope for employment for persons with benchmark disabilities in
Government establishments.

The ninth round of talks between the Central Government and farmer unions was held in the National Capital yesterday.
Speaking to media after
the talks, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, no conclusive
decision was taken in the meeting and the next round of talks will be
held on the 19th of January. Saying that the talks were held in a
cordial atmosphere, Mr Tomar hoped that a consensus will be arrived at
soon. He added that the government suggested to farmer unions to form
informal group to finalise concrete proposals that can be discussed
further at formal talks. He also expressed concern at the farmers
protesting in the cold conditions. Mr Tomar said, all the three farm
legislations were discussed in detail.
The Minister added that
the Centre has identified the concerns of the farmers and is trying to
allay these concerns. Replying to a query, the Minister said, Centre
will present its side before the Committee constituted by the Supreme
Court when asked.

The Election Commission of
India, ECI has said that State and Union Territory governments will
need its prior approval, if any disciplinary action is initiated against
the Chief Electoral Officers and other officers up to Joint Chief
Electoral Officer during their tenure and also up to one year from the
expiry of last election conducted by them. The ECI said this in a letter
marked to the Cabinet Secretary, Chief Secretaries of States, Secretary
of Department of Personnel and Training and Chief Electoral Officers of
all the States. The ECI also said that many instances have come to its
notice wherein Chief Electoral Officers and some other officials working
directly in the office of Chief Electoral Officers have been victimised
after the elections are over.

approved the appointment of Belarussian coach Nikolai Snesarev as the
middle- and long-distance coach of the Indian athletics team. The
